The World Trained You Not To Trust Yourself

What Shapes Your Decisions

How do you make decisions for your life?  This is a crucial question if you are dissatisfied with your current circumstances.  It’s not always about just what’s next or the most convenient escape, but how have I made the decisions that led me here to begin with?

Let’s take it a step further. What belief systems shape or limit your choices?  What cultural conditioning makes you feel afraid or guilty for wanting to deviate from the norm.  Who “supports you” by encouraging you to play it safe because they are restricted by all the same things?

These questions can be difficult to answer.  The truth is uncomfortable to face, but just beyond that discomfort is freedom.

Inner Compass

What if I told you, that within you is a compass that has been pointing you toward passion, fulfillment, peace, and purpose all along?  If you struggle with anxiety, sadness, lack of motivation, irritability, or chronic fatigue… all of these things are that compass screaming “You are going in the wrong direction!”

At first, the signals were quiet. Easy to dismiss. But you didn’t listen.  We do the best we can with the information and access we have, but there is a world of wisdom inside of you that is waiting to be uncovered. Waiting for you to learn it’s language.

 Another Way

As a young adult, working a standard 9 to 5, struggling with burnout, and losing myself more and more every day—a fire of rebellion awoke in me. I felt infuriated by the things people said, as if this was just the way life had to be:

“That’s just how it is.”
“You have to work to live.”
“It’s called work for a reason.”
“We all have to do things we don’t like.”
“Keep hustling.”
“Welcome to adulthood.”
“You can rest when you’re dead.”
“Everyone’s tired.”
“Be grateful you even have a job.”
“Busy is better than bored.”

I knew in my gut, that there had to be a better way to live.  I consumed massive amounts of self-help books, listened to motivational speakers, bought all the journals and habit trackers.  Nothing worked, long term anyway, but that ache grew stronger and stronger.  I knew there was another way, and that ache was my compass.

 The Body’s Wisdom

Every emotion, energy shift, pull in your gut, wall of resistance is communicating in real time. Learning to listen and interpret your body’s wisdom is the first step to finding true North.  Stop gathering information from outside of yourself and start tuning in.  No friend, parent, book, influencer, expert knows you better than you.  There’s plenty of well-intentioned advice out there, but until you know your body, your desires, your fears, your conditioning, your blocks… it’s just a guess. A random direction. Another version of what you’ve already tried.

It’s like trying to renovate a house blindfolded — swinging tools at walls you haven’t even inspected. You don’t know what’s load-bearing, what’s cosmetic, what’s hiding mold behind fresh paint. Without seeing clearly, without knowing the structure, every fix is a shot in the dark. But when you slow down, peel back the layers, and really look, you begin to understand what needs support, what can be let go, and what’s worth preserving. You’re not just rebuilding, you’re restoring the foundation while keeping the character of what’s always been yours.

The work isn’t about becoming someone else.  It’s about unlearning everything that taught you not to trust yourself. The compass you’ve been searching for? It’s always been yours. You’re just learning to hear it again.
